Otherwise, I'm thinking of keeping this gun as is, no side saddle, e.g., that way I can keep it in the Mossberg Loc-Box mounted in the basement, a great go-to when I'm down there doin' the laundry and I forget to bring down my Browning Hi-Power, (plus I would get to enjoy looking at the bold "590A1" embossed on the receiver.SERIAL NUMBERS OFTEN ALLOW YOU TO DETERMINE THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE Relatedly, any recommendations for direct blade replacement, tritium? Hans used a direct replacement of the factory blade on my 50668 assembly with a tritium.have to give him a call. Gotta figure a way to move it without dinging it up (I've got a great front sight blade adjustment tool for Enfield No 4s, but I don't think it will fit here.). I think I'm going to forgo the Speedfeed replacement I had in mind and run this stock.Īnyways, one gripe, the front sight post of my new 51663 is not sitting squarely in the dovetail, slightly left, annoying, given that I've got windage control on the aperature and never touch windage settings after zero. I've attached an Eagle 6-round mag pouch to the starboard side and it works well, not interfering with my cheek weld when I switch to that side. The comb is a bit thinner than the Speedfeed, which I like, and the butt pad is more substantial too. The length of trigger pull is shorter than the Speedfeed, great for my somewhat stubby fingers, but the length of pull is standard and fine for my long arms (I've given up on Bantams, which are usually perfect LOTP, but too short an LOP for me, no matter the clothes). I really like the stock on this 51663, actually quite different than the Mossberg Speedfeed featured on the 50668/51668s. I believe the finish of the SPX is the same, but for some reason, not as durable? The matching finish on the SPX Choate tube seems weak, maybe because it's aluminum and the barrel isn't. This gun is surprisingly light - so much so that I had to compare barrels with my 50668 just to be sure! (Maybe it's because I don't handle my 50668 empty much.) The finish is outstanding, done in what I understand is Mossberg's "Matte Blue," a dark, dull black finish, unlike the grey-like park finish on my 50668 circa 2002. Excellent condition, no scratches, rubs, blems, etc.

Arrived (pics to follow at some point)! R&R shipped the day after I placed my order (maybe they expedite subsequent on-line orders, as my initial SPX order took about 4 days until shipped).
